Safeguarding & Welfare

The safety and wellbeing of every student is the single most important thing we do. This page sets out, in plain language, how A World Academy keeps your child safe before, during and after their residential academy in London, Singapore, Milan and Madrid. Last updated June 2026.

Our commitment

We are committed to providing a safe, supportive and inclusive environment for all students, the majority of whom are minors. Safeguarding is everyone's responsibility at A World Academy, and our policies follow UK safeguarding best practice including 'Keeping Children Safe in Education' principles.

We operate a zero-tolerance approach to any form of abuse, bullying, discrimination or harassment.

Vetted, trained staff

Every member of staff who works with students — academic tutors, residential mentors and welfare leads — is background-checked through an enhanced DBS check (or the international equivalent) before they join a programme.

All staff complete safeguarding and child-protection training, and each academy has a designated Safeguarding Lead who is on call throughout.

24/7 pastoral care & supervision ratios

Students are supervised around the clock by a dedicated residential team. Pastoral ratios are tiered by age — roughly 1:6 for our 12–14 Juniors and 1:10 for our 15–18 Seniors — so younger students always receive closer support.

Residences are single-sex by floor where appropriate, with staff accommodation on the same corridors and secure access control.

Health & medical

We collect medical, dietary and accessibility information at the time of booking through the secure parent portal. A first-aid-trained member of staff is always on duty, and we have clear procedures for accessing local medical care.

Comprehensive travel and medical insurance is mandatory for every student.

Online safety & contact

We have clear codes of conduct governing staff–student communication, social media and the use of devices. Parents receive regular updates and can contact our welfare team directly at any time.

Reporting a concern

Any concern about a student's welfare is taken seriously and acted on immediately. Students, parents and staff can raise a concern in confidence with the Safeguarding Lead or by emailing safeguarding@aworldacademy.com. Our full Safeguarding Policy is available to parents on request.
